A public art installation with over 200 mirrors hanging from a tree at the University of Nevada-Reno to encourage self-reflection. Dozens of mirrors were suspended in a tree, spinning slowly in the breeze. Students walking to class took the time to stop and stare at what was called “The Selfie Tree.” Dazzled and a bit confused they whipped out their phones for a quick picture to share on Facebook or Instagram. Many students at first did not understand that this was an art piece. “Mirrors,” is what a passing student initially thought when he first noticed the tree. However, when he looked more closely he said, “It’s some kind of awareness for beauty and self-confidence.” “It looked interesting, it caught my attention.
